Today, I’m going to show you the 10 best keto products at Walmart along with 3 popular items in the keto community you avoid if your goal is to lose weight on keto.

This is part 4 of my 5 part series on how to shop keto. If you’re looking for keto shopping ideas or are new to keto, check out the rest of the series.

Part #2 Top 7 Keto Items at Whole Foods Market

Part #3 5 Best Keto Items at Trader Joe’s

Walmart has added more keto-friendly products as keto has become more popular over the last couple of years because people are using it to lose weight, improve energy, and beat metabolic diseases like diabetes.

They have also added some products that claim to be keto, but are either a waste of money or can actually kick you out ketosis.

Walmart can be a great place to shop keto, but we have to be smart. We want to find the right keto products that are going to leave us feeling full from healthy fats without all of the carbs and fillers.

How to choose the best keto products at Walmart

The first step is to read the nutrition label. You want to make sure the product in your cart is actually keto-friendly.

The packaging may claim to be keto-friendly, Whole30 approved, or no-sugar-added, but do your own research. These products can still be high in natural sugars, starches, or fiber so it’s important to check the nutritional facts on the back of the packaging yourself.

1) Check the Macros: Keto-friendly products should be high in healthy fats, moderate protein, and low in carbohydrates. Our ideal ration is 75 percent fat, 20 percent protein, and only 5 percent carbs.

Of course, the ideal keto ratio may be different for you depending on your gender, age, health conditions, and exercise habits.

2) Be careful with sweeteners. Ingredients are listed in the order weight so the ingredient that makes up the bulk of the product is listed first.

Be wary if one of the first ingredients is a sweetener because many keto-friendly sweeteners like erythritol, stevia, and monk fruit can cause stomach problems is take in large doses.

Also, as you’ll see later, some companies add maltodextrin to keto-friendly sweeteners, which can kick you out of ketosis!

Normally, the best keto-friendly sweeteners are erythritol, stevia, and monk fruit.

3) Try to choose real food. Not all keto products at Walmart are created equal, the less processed the better results you’re going to see from keto.

For example, choose products with healthy fats high in Omega-3s and low in inflammatory Omega-6 fatty acids along with clean proteins and only a small amount of carbs

1. Lindt 90% Cocoa Dark Chocolate

Chocolate cravings are no laughing matter.

These 90 percent dark chocolate bars are the best product at Walmart to soothe your sweet tooth without derailing your keto lifestyle. Also, One serving is ⅓ of a bar!

2. Kerry Gold Butter (Salted)

This is the best keto product at Walmart to have always stocked in your pantry. Kerry Gold butter comes from cows that graze on lush green grass in Ireland.

I recommend the salted Kerry Gold since you need more salt on keto to keep your electrolytes balanced to avoid the keto flu.

Just make sure you don’t buy the sticks or spread with canola oil in them.

3. Fourth & Heart Ghee

Fourth & Heart ghee is made from the milk of grassfed cows in New Zealand. Ghee also called clarified butter, is great for cooking because it doesn’t break down under high heat.

It also lasts for 3 whole months without having to be refrigerated so it’s perfect for spreading buttery goodness on keto bagels and other treats.

4. The Nutty Gourmet Walnut Butter (Sea Salt)

This is definitely the best keto product at Walmart in the nut butter category.

Walnut butter is higher in Omega-3 fatty acids (the healthy fats that lower inflammation) and lower in net carbs than peanut butter or almond butter.

They’re also a good source of magnesium and other minerals that are important for a healthy keto lifestyle.

5. G. Hughes Sugar-Free BBQ Sauce

G. Hughes is the best keto-friendly BBQ sauce I’ve found so far! If your keto meals are starting to feel boring this is a great way to spice things up.

Go ahead, get sauced and stay keto!

6. Thai Kitchen Coconut Cream

Thia Kitchen Coconut Cream is not only one of the best keto products at Walmart, but one of my favorite keto products period.

I use coconut cream to make keto chocolate mousse. It’s my favorite keto-friendly dessert and takes less than five minutes to make. Even your non-keto friends and family will love it.

I’ve tried a number of other brands of coconut cream, but they don’t work as well because they’re too watery or too clumpy. Somehow Thai Kitchen got it right, it’s the only brand I use.

7. Cleveland Kraut Sour Kraut

Fermented foods are great for your gut health and along with longevity. Sour Kraut is an easy to find fermented keto-friendly food that you can use as a side with a number of different dishes.

Unlike other major brands that make Saur Kraut, Cleveland Kraut is very clean with only a couple of ingredients.

8. Parm Crisps

These baked cheese snacks are one of the best keto products in the snack category.

The only ingredient is aged parmesan cheese and they also have zero carbs! This one keto snack you can enjoy without even a hint of guilt.

9. Cholula hot sauce

Cholula is my favorite keto product at Walmart in the hot sauce category because it’s a great way to spice up leftovers or give you a change of pace for your eggs in the morning.

It has zero carbs and a shortlist of clean ingredients you can actually pronounce.

10. La Croix

A favorite in the keto community as an alternative to pop (or soda). La Croix offers a wide variety of flavors.

Cerise Limon (Cherry Lime) is my favorite flavor to use for keto cocktails. It mixes well with Vodka 🙂

Recently, Walmart has also started stocking Bubbly, Pierre, AHA, and other brands of flavored sparkling waters. All of these brands are very similar.

Below is a Pinterest friendly photo…so you can pin it to your keto board!

What are the best keto products at Walmart in the fruits & vegetables category?

Walmart really shines if you’re looking for keto-friendly frozen fruits and vegetables because they sell them in large sizes at low prices. Walmart is a great place to pick up these items if you have a big family or want to save money on your grocery bill.

Which fruits and vegetables should we buy organic to avoid herbicides/pesticides and which ones should we buy conventional to save some money?

The EWG tests a number of the most popular fruit and vegetables every year for trace pesticides. They use this information to create two lists.

The Clean 15 list are all of the conventionally grown fruits and vegetables that have low levels of pesticide residue. Buy the regular version of the Clean 15 to save some money.

Frozen broccoli and riced cauliflower are two of the best keto products you can find at Walmart in the Clean 15.

Also, the EWG also makes a list of the Dirty Dozen. These are fruits and vegetables at normally have higher levels of pesticide residue and are worth spending the extra money to buy organic.

Keto products at Walmart you should avoid

1. Stevia in the Raw (avoid)

Normally, stevia is a great natural keto-friendly sweetener. This product is a perfect example of why we can’t always trust the claims on the packaging and have to read nutritional facts closely.

Stevia in the Raw uses maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is a highly processed sugar commonly found in pop and candy that will spike your glucose levels and can kick you out of ketosis.

My Favorite Keto Sweetener: Swerve

2. Slimfast Keto Meal Bars (avoid)

My Favorite Keto Bar: Perfect Keto

You should avoid Slimfast Keto meal bars because they contain a number of unwanted ingredients that can affect your ketosis.

IMO fiber is one of the main ingredients and you can’t subtract it from net carbs like other fibers because IMO fiber actually does impact your blood sugar levels.

It will most likely negatively impact your ketosis levels and should be avoided because it affects your blood sugar levels,

3. KetoScience MCT oil (avoid)

Normally, I’m a big fan of MCTs. MCTs (Medium Chain Tryglerydes) are healthy fats derived primarily from coconuts. They help you get into ketosis, boost energy, and keep you feeling full.

So why not KetoScience MCT oil?

There are actually three different types of MCTs. C12 MCTs are the most abundant, followed by C10, and C8 are the rarest because they makes up just 5% of the coconut.

C8 MCTs are about four times more effective at boosting ketone levels compared to C12 MCTs. In fact, regular coconut oil is just as effective as C12 MCTs.

When we look at the nutritional facts, we see that it just says MCTs from coconuts. However, the label doesn’t specify what type of MCTs, which means its likely almost all the cheaper C12 MCTs.

In my opinion, MCT oil made of mostly C12 MCTs is just overpriced coconut oil. I only buy MCT oil that specifically says C8 MCTs to get all of the ketone boosting benefits.

My Favorite MCT Oil: Intentionally Bare organic C8 MCT Oil

Final Thoughts on the Best Keto Products at Walmart

I just showed you 10 of the best keto products at Walmart. No matter where you shop, you should read the label before you put a product in your cart.

Even though it may say Keto Certified, Low-Carb, Whole30, Sugar-Free, etc on the packaging doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a right for your keto lifestyle.

In addition, it can be helpful to use a keto-friendly app to create a grocery list and keep you on track. You might be surprised to learn that some of the best keto apps in 2020 are completely free.

One last tip, choose real food whenever possible. Pre-packaged keto friendly bars and snacks are great to have once in a while when your busy or when you want to treat yourself, but the more real food you eat the faster you will lose weight, feel more energized and enjoy all the benefits of keto!
