Now that you know how to make the best keto bacon omelet, I’ll show you some of my bonus tips.
1. Oven bacon: Frying bacon the stovetop requires you to move around the bacon every couple of minutes or risk burning it before all the slices are done.
The better way to cook bacon is in the oven. Simply set the oven to 350 degrees and put your bacon on a pan. Make sure the pan has side walls so the bacon fat doesn’t drip onto the bottom of your oven. Next, layout the bacon so the strips aren’t overlapping because we want them to cook evenly. Finally, put the bacon in the oven for 10-15 minutes and it comes out perfect every time!
Don’t worry if you forgot to pre-heat the oven. You can just add a few more minutes to cook time and your bacon will still turn out perfect!
2. Refrigerate Cooked Bacon: One of my secrets in how to make a keto bacon omelet so fast is to have cooked bacon ready to go in the refrigerator. You can keep cooked bacon in the refrigerator for up to a week and you can use it for more than just breakfast.
3. Use the bacon fat: The bacon fat leftover after you cook the bacon has an incredible amount of flavor. Drain the bacon fat into a small heat-safe container and store it in the fridge for up to a month.
4. Organic bacon: I love to eat bacon often, especially with breakfast. I want it to be as clean as possible because I eat bacon regularly. You should look for organic or heritage raised bacon if you can afford it.
5. Cook low and slow: Eggs are sensitive to heat and go from undercooked to overdone easily. For this reason, you should use low heat when making your keto bacon omelet. I use a 2 out of 10 on our stove.
This low and slow approach also gives you more time to fold the omelet before the eggs become too stiff.
6. Freeze green onions: Green onions add a great pop of flavor and color to this keto bacon omelet recipe. The problem is they normally spoil in a few of days before you can use the entire bunch.
If you chop your green onions and then freeze them they last a month or longer. Also, they unthaw in a couple of minutes when you put them on top of anything warm.
What eggs you choose to use is important when you make your keto bacon omelet. The right eggs will enhance the flavor and give you a healthier breakfast.
Best Option: Pasture-Raised eggs
These eggs are the highest in anti-inflammatory Omega-3 fatty acids. Pastured eggs are laid by hens that access outdoors and are allowed to roam and peck at the earth. These hens feed on the green pastures, bugs and have access to the sun and fresh air. Generally, they live a recognizably chicken life and eat a natural omnivore diet.
You can find pasture-raised eggs at most local Co-Ops. Otherwise, you can always find them at Whole Foods Market along with 7 of my favorite keto items.
Better Option: Organic eggs
These eggs are laid by hens that live in a caging system, but they must have access to sunlight. They feed on an organic and vegetarian diet. The grains and vegetables used for the hen’s diet must also meet the organic requirements. additionally, these hens maintenance is free from vaccines, hormones, and other intrusive drugs.
Most Affordable Option: Conventional eggs
These are the standard supermarket eggs. The hens that lay them grow on overfilled cages with no access to the sun. They feed on grains supplemented with minerals and vitamins. Also, the hens may receive treatments with hormones and antibiotics.
Tumeric has become popular in the United States as a superfood because it lowers inflammation, but it’s been used in Southern Asian recipes for thousands of years.
New research indicates that turmeric may have more health benefits when it is heated up. You can add turmeric to this keto bacon omelet recipe and it’s great with a number of different keto chicken dinner recipes too.
If you’re looking for the best place to buy turmeric, it’s one of my five favorite items at Trader Joe’s.
