This keto chocolate mousse recipe is my favorite keto dessert right now! It’s rich, creamy, and delicious with no whipping, beating, or avocados. My recipe is easy with only 3 ingredients and takes about 7 minutes to make.
Your whole family will enjoy this keto chocolate mousse recipe. It works as a great dessert for dinner parties and gatherings even with your non-keto friends and relatives. You don’t even have to tell them it’s keto…it will be our little secret 🤫
The Trouble with Traditional Keto Chocolate Mousse
The traditional keto chocolate mousse recipe is a labor-intensive process. It requires whipping the cream, beating eggs, melting chocolate, carefully folding it all together, and waiting for it to chill.
“Real” keto chocolate mousse also creates a bunch of dirty bowls and kitchen utensils along with a great deal of time and patience.
This keto chocolate mousse recipe is as close to the real thing without all of the effort and mess.
The Ingredients
This is very simple and you only need 3 main ingredients with a few optional ingredients. I have also included the brands that I recommend.

- 1 and 1/2 Cups Coconut Cream: this makes the rich and creamy base. Make sure you get coconut cream, NOT coconut milk. Coconut milk has too much water and will NOT work. I’ve tried a bunch of different brands of coconut cream to get the right consistency and by far the best is Thai Kitchen coconut cream.
My Favorite Coconut Cream: Thai Kitchen coconut cream
- 2 Tablespoons Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: I use 365 Everyday Value organic baking cocoa. Just make sure you don’t buy cacao powder by mistake. Cacao powder has a more bitter taste.

- 1/4 cup Sweetener: There are a number of different keto (and not so keto sweeteners). I use Swerve confectioners sweetener. Read the sweeteners section for more details.

- Optional ingredients: A dash of cinnamon adds another dimension to the flavor and cinnamon is a natural anti-inflammatory. A pinch of Himalayan salt is also a great way to add trace minerals and a little salt will also enhance the chocolate taste.
- Toppings: Whip cream or organic blueberries
Keto Sweeteners
There are now lots of different sweetener and alternatives on the market that are keto friendly, but there are a few things you should know before you decide which keto sweetener is best for you.
First, stevia and stevia-based sweeteners (such as Pyure) can have a bitter aftertaste that when mixed with chocolate. From my experience chocolate can amplify the bitter taste in stevia.
I recommend you do NOT use stevia-based sweeteners with chocolate like our keto chocolate mousse recipe.
Second, some sweeteners appear to be keto-friendly but aren’t. Stevia in the Raw is a great example of why we can’t always trust the claims on the packaging and have to read nutritional facts closely.
Stevia in the Raw is stevia mixed with maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is a highly processed sugar commonly found in pop and candy that will spike your glucose levels and kick you out of ketosis.
I recommend picking other keto sweeteners that don’t contain Maltodextrin.
Third, some alcohol-based sweeteners like xylitol can easily upset your stomach if you have too much of them and xylitol is highly toxic to dogs, cats, and other pets!
I recommend using Swerve which is made from erythritol and measure just like regular sugar. More specifically, for our keto chocolate mousse recipe, I recommend the confectioners Swerve because it blends in well with the chocolate mousse.
Granular Swerve works great in other recipes but leaves a grainy texture if we use it to make our keto chocolate mousse.
How to Make this Keto Chocolate Mousse Recipe
I love how easy this recipe is to make. It’s only 3 simple steps and takes about 7 minutes from start to finish.
- Combine coconut cream, cocoa powder, sugar substitute, cinnamon, and salt in a standing mixer bowl (we used our Kitchen Aid, but any electric mixer will work).
- Mix on low-medium for 1-2 minutes, until creamy. Do not over mix or it will turn clumpy.
- Cover and place in the refrigerator for 6 hours-overnight to set.
- Top with whipped cream or blueberries (optional).
This keto chocolate mousse is so dense, rich, and decadent. It will satisfy your chocolate cravings in only a few bites!
