Today, I’m going to show you the top five best keto items at Trader Joe’s.
This is part three of my five-part series that I’m doing on the best keto places to shop.
#1 Frozen Cauliflower Rice
Organic
The first keto item at Trader Joe’s I really like that is very popular in the keto community is the frozen cauliflower rice. White rice is something that you probably ate before keto. This is a much healthier keto-friendly substitute!
The cauliflower rice at Trader Joe’s in organic, but you can go with the conventional cauliflower as well because it is on the EWG’s Clean 15 list.
At a $1.99 a pound for the organic cauliflower rice very affordable.
I use cauliflower rice all the time with chicken and beef stir fry. You can warm it up in the microwave in just a couple of minutes and there’s a lot of different things you can do with it too!
#2 Shredded Cheese
Organic
The second keto item from Trader Joe’s that I buy a lot of is their organic shredded cheese. My kids really enjoy this on top of eggs, tacos, and even right out of the bag!
It’s the lowest cost organic shredded cheese that I’ve been able to find around me and one of the keto items that I definitely recommend.
I buy the organic shredded cheese because organic dairy products don’t contain any added hormones, unnecessary anti-biotics, and fewer pesticides and herbicides in the food fed to the cows that then gest passed on to the dairy products you buy.
#3 Turmeric
Conventional
Another keto item at Trader Joe’s that I like a lot of is turmeric. It’s very popular in Indian food and as a superfood with a lot of health benefits too!
New research indicates that turmeric may have more health benefits when it is heated up.
I love to add turmeric to spice up my eggs in the morning and it’s great with a number of different keto friendly chicken recipes.
What I like about the turmeric at Trader Joe is that it doesn’t have any fillers in it. A jar lasts a long time and is only $1.99 again very affordable.
#4 Himalayan Salt
An essential keto item at Trader Joe’s that I really like is the Himalayan salt. This is especially important if you are new to keto!
Salt is an important electrolyte for your body. Carbs cause your body to retain water, but when you switch to keto your body becomes more efficient at flushing out waste and needs you need more electrolytes.
Many people new to keto forget to increase their electrolytes and start to feel light-headed and weak. This is commonly called the “keto flu.”
You can avoid the keto flu my increasing your electrolytes.
The Himalayan from Trader Joe’s is good clean source of salt. I like that it comes in a grinder and shaker combo where you can actually see the salt crystals so you know there aren’t any fillers mixed in with the salt.
#5 Smoked Sardines
This is one keto item at Trader Joe’s that is a little strange and takes an acquired taste.I’ve tried all different types of sardines and Trader Joe’s are the best tasting by far!
Sardines are super healthy with lots of omega-3 fatty acids and they’re also really good source trace minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc that are hard to get naturally anywhere else. Sardines also have low levels of mercury of compared to other fish.
Trader Joe’s sardines are packed in olive oil, and they even have a smoky flavor. These are the best tasting ones that I’ve been able to find.
Bonus Keto Item: Avacodos
Conventional
The last keto item at Trader Joes that I really like is avocados. Trader Joe’s avocados are the perfect size to eat as a keto-friendly snack. They’re usually fairly ripe and they’re actually really good inside without having what fiber.
I recommend buying conventional avocados to save some money. They’re part of the EWG’s Clean 15 list because they have very little herbicide or pesticide residue.
